2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S: A Dogleg Makes This Sports Car Even Better! – Ignition Ep. 155

This episode of Ignition presented by Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com) is as much a love story as it is a car review. A supercar focuses on the numbers; a sports car is more concerned with the experience. The Aston Martin Vantage has always been a sports car first and foremost. Now in its 11th model year, it blurs the line with supercar firepower and the most interesting transmission on the road today. A dogleg seven-speed manual forces its driver to pay close attention to each shift, and the result is the most rewarding sports-car ride on the planet. It doesn’t help that the gorgeous body has aged remarkably well, the V-12 engine has had continual updates, and there’s a new infotainment system. Just 100 of these stick-shift Vantages will be sold in the United States, and those buyers might be the luckiest people alive. If it sounds like we’re gushing, just wait until you watch this monster try to achieve its 205-mph top speed on a dry lakebed, or attempt to not drift around a corner, stealing the heart of MOTOR TREND Senior Features Editor Jason Cammisa. Yes, our affection for this car became much more than your run-of-the mill review. Well, except for the poor German cameraman, who was tased into unconsciousness. Don’t worry, he recovered just fine.

I recently bought one of the few remaining 2017 V12 Vantage S Roadsters available in the USA. Having been a Porsche Turbo S owner for years, I agree with Jason that it’s about the experience not the numbers. This car may be a bit long in the tooth but boy does it make me smile. And frankly, I get more attention from this car than any Porsche I have ever owned!

  4. I Feel You BRO .

If I had 200 grand I would just buy a Hellcat Charger and a Demon, and then have some spare change for tires. I think Dodge nailed the whole "Simple fun" car recipe with those two. If one was so inclined you could drive your kids to school in a Hellcat Charger, then run 11's in the quarter, and then pick them up all in the same day. Simple fun, is having a car that can do everything you'd need to do in a normal day, still be able to blaze tracks and roads alike, and doesn't need to be kept in a garage brought out on special occasions. This vantage looks like fun, but a dogleg 7 speed mated to a v12 is not simple. Just saying that out loud in the wrong company would label you a prick.

  22. nooranik21 says:

"It's just a quad cam V12" because that's what comes to mind when I think of simple.

  23. Salt flats man….salt flats

  24. This car is so old now that I'd rather call it Aston Martin Vant-age, get it?

  25. As the owner of a 2012 v8 vantage I agree completely, like I will fully admit that it's actually pretty slow it take 4.8 seconds to 60 but the noise and the feel and it just feels so fast and sounds so mean XD

  26. Love you Jason…!!! You are awesome man..!!!

  27. Amazing car! And you RIGHT, experience is key. If you wanna drive fast, you just gotta Get Good.

  28. Emet Playz says:
