    So the theory behind the lip, and why the double sided tape holds it, is because the lip itself isn't providing any significant downward force. It helps to direct more air over the car. At the front of the car there will be a high pressure zone, the air will be forced to go above and below the car. The splitter forms a barrier for air to flow out of the high pressure zone underneath the car. Because more air passes over the car, and less air passes under the car, there will be a lower pressure underneath the car, sucking it into the ground.

    In real life I don't believe it does anything more than adding weight and increasing air resistance. The lip isn't engineered properly or it would be super expensive. For it do do anything it should be much much bigger. Also, as with anything aero, it's the full package that counts. A lip won't do much good if the car wasn't designed for it. There's no real alternative for the air to escape, because the front of the car isn't built for it. So the air will be forced over the lip and will go under the car anyway, creating a higher wind resistance and more turbulent air flow. If this lip does anything, it will be slowing you down.

    As an Aviation Mechanic, there are some applications we use double sided tape, but they usually aren't installed in the air flow. :P

  15. i want to learn more about of cars. not the standard way. but the JDM way ( engineering experience). really i know nothing but i want to know everything but experience. honestly that's what i can dream for. even. a photos a photo and ill do what i can for each! – i do have engineering experience just not enough that id like to make clear. but id really be happy for the experience even for a month

    Thanks for the laugh. Now, double sided tape. Yes, there are varieties strong enough to hold aerodynamic parts together. For example 3M make a number of aerospace adhesives some of which are rolls are tape. But if the question is "is it used on a lip kit i found for cheap on the internet?" the answer is likely No. Why use 3M Scotch-Weld tape that likely will cost more than the lip? And even they have a worklife that is short compared to a nut and bolt. The tape is used as a way to seal the joints and for sticking the parts together before its bolted or welded together in aerospace applications, even if they claim its strong enough to be used without nuts and bolts or conventional welding*. (*3M is not held responsible if your airplane suddenly disintegrate mid air.)

    Answer: Yes, a functional front spoiler ('lip') will create a lower pressure underneath the vehicle. Pressure travels High->Low, so the effects of the lip are increased downforce over the entire vehicle.
    Applicability: Most aftermarket "aero kits" are predominantly/purely aesthetic, and will have negligible/no improvement on the vehicle (often times degrading performance).

    To respond to the question at the beginning – yes, there are some aero features you can add that will be functional with only double-sided tape.

    Most of those work by streamlining flow that's coming off another part of the car, though.

    If I'm being honest it doesn't work for me. The angular design of the factory bodykit has been lost and the car's gained a little bit of a double chin. That having been said I know other's will love it. That's what keeps life interesting.

    That 3m tape is a lot stronger than you think. I use it at work to bond 80kgs glass panels together that form glass walls.
